Many people struggle with their perfectionism, seeing it as something to get rid of, something that gets in the way of self-confidence and success. For many years, I had the same beliefs. My all-or-nothing mindset and excessive self-criticism impacted my well-being and gave me the reputation of being a control freak. I now know better and embrace perfectionism as my superpower behind endless drive, authenticity, and boldness. Stopping to resist my perfectionism gave me new energy and, thus, turbocharged me with the potential to improve myself and the world around me. By using this surplus potential curative and intentionally, I spread my wings further than I ever imagined.
Let's pause momentarily and go into the root causes of perfectionism. It often stems from expectations and pressure to meet specific standards parents, peers, or society set. Soon enough, one strives for unattainable goals and standards, often ending up in a negative spiral of anxiety, indecision, fear, and self-doubt. Because in society, the adverse effects of perfectionism predominate when we talk about mental health problems such as depression and stress, in my experience, little attention is paid to the power that comes from engaging in nonresistance. Embracing perfectionism opens the door to passion, ambition, fearlessness, and chasing dreams. The confidence to fail, learn, and grow as you saturate your life with more and more meaning IS perfectionism. Every perfectionist has an unprecedented drive to understand and improve themselves. It can fuel adventurous action with an energy that inspires others. Of course, it will still come with some of the known challenges, but those are worth it. As I fail, learn, and grow, I have the superpower to spark a revolution beyond our wildest dreams.
